RPGTV Notebook - March 28

Highlighting the greyhounds who have caught the eye of RPGTV analysts over the past seven days.
⭐
Antigua Bear (Hove A5)
Jason Heath's October 2021 youngster was not the sharpest out the boxes on debut and trailed for the majority of the race but found different gears off the last bend to be beaten a couple of lengths. A swifter exit will surely see him in contention for gold next time out.

⭐
Don Nico (Monmore A4)
Richie Taberner's four-times ex-Irish winner was making his second UK start and ran the track smoother than on debut. He does not do anything in a hurry but seems to be gradually finding his feet and finished the contest well in third. Will not need to improve much.

⭐
Dude (Romford A7)
Maxine Locke's pup opened his account at the third time of asking despite a missed break. He showed good pace to the first bend to get himself into contention off the second bend then good trackcraft to switch outside at the third. Ran on strongly to get up close home.

⭐
Hang On Billy (Towcester D2)
Peter Harnden's bitch looked particularly unlucky not to make the most of a drop in grade. She was about to go round in front but was hampered from behind yet still managed second. A similar effort with slightly better fortune can see her secure a second victory at this level.

⭐
Hollywood Zola (Harlow D4)
Tilena Welch's bitch opened her account in late January and was racing for the first time since when second. However, she was hassled all the way to the first bend by a lid-pinger which saw her run very wide into the home straight and very likely cost her the race.

Hopes Woofwoof (Oxford OR)
Signed off Irish career with a victory over subsequent Golden Jacket finalist Coonough Crow at Shelbourne's Winter Racing Festival and was stepping up to six bends for the first time in the UK. Did not handle the first two bends leaving him playing catch up but ran well in defeat.

Jims Star (Doncaster B7)
Patrick Smith's debutant, a Waterford winner in October, left observers with plenty of positive notes on her first outing. She demonstrated confidence at the bends then powered up the home straight to be denied a win by less than a length. Will quickly leave current level behind.

⭐
Wendil Rocky (Henlow A7)
Richard Devenish's British-bred opened his account at the first time of asking but it was far from straightforward and there will certainly be more to come. He paced up well after a flat-footed start to work into the race and was then brave and smart in settling the issue. More to come.

Zari Phantom (Crayford A9)
Has gone off favourite in all four starts since arriving from Hove, winning once, but missed his break latest then showed good pace. He rode a first bend bump and was then forced to check at the third but still ran on to finish second. Dean Childs' charge looks above this grade.
