RPGTV Notebook - February 21

Highlighting the greyhounds who have caught the eye of RPGTV analysts over the past seven days.

Baran Pimlico (Hove A11)
Jamie Kingsley's youngster had cut little ice in three sprints but it looks a matter of time before he opens his 500m account. He has twice been caught after leading, the latest despite completely missing his break and using up a lot of fuel to get to the front but only being run down late.
Blooms Red Rum (Towcester D4)
The ex-Henlow dog failed to feature on debut at his new surroundings in D3 grade but fared better on his second start when runner-up behind an impressive winner. Jason Bloomfield's charge ultimately had no answers to his kennelmate but scope and will not have to find much.
Knockard Sam (Crayford A7)
James Turner's dog won by a wide margin at Clonmel and his latest effort suggests he is getting to grips with his new base. Trapping well, he did not turn left at the bend and lost the advantage but his pace on the straights saw him get back into the contest.
Maisy Mac (Henlow A6)
Having her second start for Carol Grasso, as on debut she was slow to start before being forced to check slightly at the bend. She was brave at the third bend to hold her line and, although finishing only fourth, was beaten just three lengths so marginal improvement at traps may suffice.
Pay It Forward (Romford A4)
Nathan Hunt's dog was moderately away then crowded to leave himself some way off the lead. He made relentless progress and ran on well to close the gap to half a length behind a rival who was completing a four-timer. Unlikely to come up against such an opponent next time.
Pistol Gun (Oxford A4)
Up against very speedy young pup here, he had plenty to do and especially after a slow start and first bend crowding. Kevin Crocker's charge flew home and almost reeled in the leader as he made up some five lengths to be beaten only a short head. Can soon land a second win.
Ruffian Han (Doncaster D2)
Returning after a lengthy absence, Ricky Overton's dog walked out of traps but absolutely tore to the bend only to run into the back of his kennelmate at the turn. That cost him all chance but anything better than a totally missed break should allow him to add to his previous win.
Sovereign (Monmore A4)
Vicki Lea's bitch had been well beaten in three opens to start her British career but was unfortunate not to open her graded account at the first time. She did enjoy a smooth run early but showed pace all the same and was travelling best when forced to check at the third.
Swift Viola (Harlow A7)
Sharon Saberton's powerful youngster was an impressive winner on her return to four bend action, coming from a long way back to score. Shuffled back at the second turn, she was five lengths behind at halfway in third with a lot on her plate but swooped late to score in good style.
